Course overview
This unit provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to estimate materials, labour and time requirements and to establish costs for the provision of services or products.
Course outcome
On successful completion of this course participants will be able to:
- identify sources and gather information relevant to estimating and costing plumbing services
- calculate materials, labour and time requirements to complete plumbing work using information sourced from work site or provided drawings and specifications, including the use of proprietary estimating software.
- identify safety requirements relevant to plumbing work its affect on work methods and cost of completing work.
- cost plumbing projects taking into account materials, labour, overhead costs, contingencies and required mark up percentages.
- develop documentation relating to estimating, costing and presentation of tenders/quotation to clients.
Course recognition
Participants successfully completing this course will receive a Statement of Attainment for CPCPCM4002A Estimate and cost work.
Participants wishing to engage in further formal studies will receive credit for this unit where it forms part of any other accredited course or training package qualification.
Target participants
- Registered and/or licensed plumbers wishing to develop skills in estimating and costing work in the context of the plumbing services industry.
- Newly qualified plumbers or completing apprentices wishing to develop a better understanding of estimating and costing processes relevant to the plumbing services industry.
Participant entry requirements / prerequisites
There are no pre requisites for this unit of competency.
Participants require language, literacy and numeracy skills of a sufficient level to enable them to complete activities applicable to the following levels of the Australian Core Skills Framework:
- Learning Level 4
- Reading Level 4
- Writing Level 3
- Oral com. Level 3
- Numeracy Level 4
Duration
40 hours over 14 weeks (evening delivery)
Delivery arrangements
The delivery of this course has been developed to offer greater flexibility to participants and reduce the amount of classroom based training. Course delivery will use a combination of face to face classroom training, flexible learning materials and self directed home based study.
The course involves:
- One (1) evening per fortnight (3hrs) over 14 weeks
- plus 19 hrs self directed learning prior to/or during course attendance
Assessment arrangements
Unit assessment requires the participant to:
- actively participate in class discussions
- complete Assessment task 1 - Basic estimating and cost process
- complete Assessment task 2 - Costing a work based plumbing task
- complete Assessment task3 - Costing and estimating a plumbing project
