Australia’s Largest Plumbing Industry Association

The Master Plumbers' and Mechanical Services Association of Australia (MPMSAA) is a registered national employer organisation providing representation and extensive services for a broad base of members in the plumbing and mechanical services sectors. The principal activities of the Association are to provide business services, industry representation, training and advice on industrial relations and employment to the membership.

The MPMSAA is a not for profit organisation. It was established in 1891 and since that time the Association has continued its reputation as a powerful, reputable national plumbing industry lobby group.

The MPMSAA Executive has championed many campaigns on behalf of members to protect and effect the required changes to legislation, regulation and government policy.

It is necessary for any industry to have a way of being heard and a strong support network.

The MPMSAA acts as the collective voice of the plumbing industry members in Australia.

The large number of MPMSAA members represents a powerful and reputable group to lobby government in support of various plumbing, business and environmental recommendations.

Full Member Rights 

Full members can vote at all MPMSAA meetings, are eligible to hold office and are entitled to all privileges and services attached to membership.

Full members are eligible to be elected to MPMSAA industry divisional committees, and may nominate to be elected to hold a seat on the National Plumbing Council and the Executive Board.

Ability to Influence

  • As a full member your participation in plumbing industry forums and MPMSAA divisional meetings will be heard through the political process at State and Federal Government levels.
  • Your views, opinions and interests will be translated into policy recommendations to government departments and political representatives.
  • Full members may be invited to have representative roles on a standards, technical or regulation review committee.

  • Heating and Cooling Division
  • Metal Roofing and Cladding Division
  • Fire Services Division
  • Asbestos Removal Division
  • Gas Services Division
  • Environmental Plumbing Division
  • Service Industry Division

The specific industry divisions have their agenda specifically set for issues and events that are occurring in that particular sector of the plumbing industry.

MPMSAA Executive Policy Development and Lobbying

The MPMSAA Executive has championed many campaigns on behalf of members to protect and effect the required changes to legislation, regulation and government policy.

The large group of MPMSAA members – and therefore significant representation of the plumbing industry – represent a powerful force to lobby government to take notice of its recommendations.

Industry Working Groups

The MPMSAA staff and committee members are heavily involved in shaping the development of plumbing codes and standards.

Full members receive invitations to put forward a representative to take part in industry technical working groups.

Full members are able to access up to date information in the MPMSAA publications.

Members also have direct access to working group officers.

Recent examples: New Ozone regulations, New OH&S regulations, PIC code of Practice, Balancing and Commissioning course, Specialised license for type A gas appliances, UV Protection, Use of Ladder/ working from heights regulations, 5 Star building regulations.

Plumbing Sector Standards Development Representative roles

Standards Development

  • Gas Standards Sector Board – The MPMSAA is a Board Member.
  • Watermark advisory committee – Committee Member
  • HIWG membership - eCommerce standards development
  • PIECUG membership – Plumbing industry eCommerce standards development
  • ARID – Development of an industry hand book and standards for the installation of rain water tanks.
  • WS027 Waste Water Standards – Committee member
  • WS05 (AS3500) National Plumbing Code - Nominated committee member.

The sector representatives ensure the plumbing industry SME’s are fairly represented with the wide range of working parties, task forces, lobby groups.

 

Divisional Operational Policy - Statement of Purpose

The Divisional Committee primary objectives are to provide assistance and support to divisional members in a way that allows those members who wish to be involved a means of inclusion into the debate and activities surrounding the relevant issue.

The Committee also needs to promote professional advancement of the industry.
